The first beach mom took us to was a really cool rock and driftwood beach that would probably be excellent for tidepooling if we weren't there near high tide. Ethan found some nice driftwood that he plans to whittle with his new pocket knife. Isabella found some nice rocks and a few cool pieces of driftwood. John even found a really nice rock with some coral on it. We saw a seal bobbing around out near the rocks, but I wasn't able to get a good picture. Ethan really wanted to make a sand castle, so he asked grandma to take us to a "sand castle making beach", so off we went.
First we drove the coast line and stopped at the marina to see if we could get a better look at some seals. We did, but the real show was the seagulls and pelicans waiting just feet from us to catch the leftovers from the fishermen cleaning their catch. There was this little group of 5 or 6 that were fighting for the same piece, and all I could think of was the seagulls in Finding Nemo saying, "Mine, mine, mine".
After a bit we continued on to the sandy beach where we all had a blast. The kids constructed their castle, and I was able to take a short walk by myself and found a handful of sand dollars. Isabella found some as well, and boy do I wish we hadn't. Well, I'm ok with it now....but let me tell you....getting a whiff of baking hot sand dollar in the hot van after it had been sitting in the sun with the windows up....NOT FUN!!! So basically the last three days of our trip were rough on the nostrils.

After that, we headed back to moms house and had dinner, and played with the ferrets some more. Thanks again for an awesome day mom!
